Despite recent progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Zambia, less than 50% of children with HIV/AIDS are actually receiving treatment. Children living in impoverished rural villages in the Western Province are particularly vulnerable and in need of lifesaving treatment. To address the pressing need and gaps in providing treatment to children living with HIV/AIDS in the Western Province, the Center for Global Initiatives will form a collaborative to launch a Rural HIV/AIDS Children’s Initiative.

The Initiative will promote the health and well-being of children living with HIV/AIDS in Western rural villages by ensuring that they receive lifesaving treatment and ongoing health monitoring.

Kaoma Western Province
In June 2017, we had great meetings in Kaoma (Western Province) where the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate continues to increase (while the rate is declining in other provinces). We listened carefully to problems that real people shared with us about how the disease is destroying their families, particularly the children. We are gearing up to work with local NGOs to help these vulnerable children live longer and healthier lives in Kaoma.
